Michigan’s Eviction Laws
The recession has negatively impacted the rental industry as well. High unemployment rates have left many tenants without the means to live up to their leasing agreements. In such cases, landlords have two types of eviction laws to turn to. Accurate Serve can serve both of these eviction types quickly and effectively:
Three-Day Evictions – Used when rent has not been paid
Seven-Day Evictions – Used in case of other violations, such as criminal activity
Eviction Standards are Statewide
The same eviction standards and safeguards apply throughout the state, regardless of where a case is filed. After the cause for eviction has been filed, the tenant must (depending on the type of notice) fix the problem or be evicted.
When the tenant can’t be found, the clerk of court will send the eviction notice by mail. The defendant then has a set amount of time to contest, or the judgment goes to the landlord and the tenant must vacate or face forcible removal by deputies.
